Man bites girl at Twilight premiere

Police are hunting a man who bit a 17-year-old girl on the neck at the premiere of vampire love story New Moon at a cinema in Michigan.
Erin Westrate told police she was watching the film at Cinema Carousel Theatre in Norton Shores with a friend when the assault occurred.
Westrate said her friend made a comment about how she would like Edward, the film's hero, to "bite her anytime".
Upon hearing that comment a man behind the girls began making rude sexual comments, WOOD TV reports.

When the film was over, the man reportedly approached the pair.
"He got maybe two, three feet from my chair and he grabs me by the back of my hair, pulls me backward and bites me on the neck," Ms Westrate said.
"He didn't break the skin or anything."
The Norton Shores Police Department are treating the case as an open assault investigation.
They have released a CCTV image and say they are looking for the man, described as white, about 45 years old and 5-feet tall with dark, spiky hair.http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/975834/man-bites-girl-17-at-twilight-premiere

Austrailians banking on Oscar nominations

THERE is growing expectation Australia might earn a swag of Academy Award nominations when they are announced on February 2. Word from Hollywood already has South Australian animated film The Cat Piano certain to be nominated after it made the short list of 10 culled from 37 qualifying shorts. Prospects are good for the film, directed by The People's Republic of Animation's Eddie White and Ari Gibson. Narrated by Nick Cave, it has already won prizes at the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney film festivals. The film industry expects Samson & Delilah, Mary and Max and Abbie Cornish to nab Oscar nominations across different categories.
IN another Academy Award cull, the academy's documentary branch named its short list of 15, which will be cut again to five. This year the category has snubbed a number of high-profile contenders. Chief among the snubs were the year's highest profile documentary, Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story and It Might Get Loud, Davis Guggenheim's follow-up to his Oscar winner, An Inconvenient Truth.....Read entire article at the Australian Newspaper

New Moon breaks box office records

New Moon breaks box office records

NEW Moon, the latest film in the Twilight saga, has blitzed the Australian box office, taking a record $16 million on its opening weekend.

New Moon easily beat the previous record set by Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince ($14,331,000), totalling $16,010,000 after opening on 530 screens.
"What a phenomenal result, this is way beyond our expectations and confirms that the Twilight franchise has well and truly arrived," said Robert Slaviero, chief executive of Hoyts Distribution.
The vampire love story, which stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, opened on November 19.
It was the third-highest opening day Australian release with just over $5 million in ticket sales, beaten only by the Lord of the Rings part two and three, The Return of The King and The Two Towers.
The third instalment in the franchise, Eclipse, will be released in July 2010.
